Treasured Stitches
Designer: Debbie Rowley
Stitched by Anne
I followed her guide except for swapping two of the outside diamonds so the three diamonds of each color formed a right triangle. This design used many stitches such as double fan, chilly hollow, and double fan doubled which aren't commonly used because they need a large area. The guide for this project is almost 200 pages and will be a reference I will use whenever I need to do these stitches.
Bargello and Design GCC
Designer: Gail Stafford
Stitched by Anne
I got to be a pilot stitcher for this GCC. I had just started pulling supplies when the Covid-19 shutdown happened, so I was forced to use stash on hand. The project is stitched with Vineyard silk on 18 ct mono canvas. I chose which bargello patterns to stitch and where to stitch them as well as choosing the colors.
Vegas Nights
Designer: Liz Morrow
(LIZART Needlepoint)
Stitched by Anne
I changed the colors from the original gray and red to use the fibers left from the Gail Stafford Bargello and Design. Without the yellow in the bargello project, the coral red reads much more orange. The lightning bolt through the middle of the design is worked in ribbon threads which matched the wools used in the borders and in the bargello piece.
Teeny Tiny Nativity (backdrop)
Designer: Judy Dalvit
of Design Gallery
Stitched by Anne
I started stitching this at least 15 years ago. I stitched the sheep, wasn't happy, and left it until the pandemic shutdown sent me digging through my stash. This nativity is also called the Drunken Nativity for the goofy grins on all the faces. As I stitched this during shutdown, I was limited to threads on hand and developed a story about the scene. The sheep has not recovered from the last kegger at the frat house pictured in the background. The cow had been painted as a Guernsey dairy cow. I changed her to a red Angus. The cow and the donkey provided the kegs for the party and are trying to escape notice now. The chicken is upset she was not invited to the kegger. The rooster is a business major trying to take control of the situation. This piece was a blast to stitch (once I decided to not frog the sheep).
Highland Circle
Designer: Kathy Rees
Stitched by Anne
The circle is made by fusing a piece of cotton batik. The perimeter of the circle is a couched Painters Thread. The overdyed silk floss used is the same Painters Thread colorway. Other threads used included DMC perle 5 and Gloriana Silks Duchess Silk. Other than adding the basketweave border around the outside edge, I followed the stitch guide by Kathy Rees.
